Museum & Gift Shop

Lighthouses in Nova Scotia have become prominent tourist attractions and are one of many reasons that people visit our province. The Cape Forchu Lightstation stands among unique natural beauty and is a piece of history that has enriched the lives of the people in and around the community for generations. This significant icon and its striking, raw landscapes, attracts visitors from around the world. The Friends of the Yarmouth Light Society are dedicated to ensuring that the Lightstation remains open for everyone to visit.

The museum, located in the lightkeeper's house, introduces visitors to the history of the Light, Cape Forchu, and its people. You'll be immersed in the history of the place through pictures, guided tours, and memorabilia. Tours are available in exchange for a donation.

Lens and Workshop

DCB-36 Lens Project

The Lens Display

The original 1962 DCB-36 Lens has been refurbished and is operational in the fog building at Cape Forchu Lighthouse. Our visitors can flip a switch and the lens illuminates, rotates and reflects on a scenic mural on the walls behind the lens. As you stand and enjoy this breathtaking experience you can add to your nostalgia by pushing a button and listen to our unique fog horn that has guided many ships safely to shore.

But wait, you are not finished!!!! We have recreated a Light keeper's workshop with an orginal work bench and many tools that were used to do the daily chores. Can you recall the names of these artifacts? Test your memory by filling out the form provided and then check your results.

The Friends of the Yarmouth Light Society opened the doors to this display in July 2017 with the surpport of many local businesses, citizens, Local Municipalities and the National Trust. It is ONE experience you should not miss when you visit the spectacular Cape Forchu Lighthouse!!! There are other suprises waiting for you to enjoy! Come visit us at the Cape!
